I have the Navionics charts for New Zealand on my iPhone and iPad.

Having just installed the new operating system iOS 11 on both, I find that the Navionics chart app won't work anymore and all I get is an error message saying that the app needs to be updated to use the new system.

With all the techie expertise of this forum. could I beg someone to let me know if the Navionics app is in fact going to be updated and if so, when? Also, is there a work-round that would get me up and running?

Summer is a'coming in downunder, and I'd like to start doing some passage planning!

Latest Navionics version is 10.8.2
Perhaps delete your app then download it again, if you already have this version.
Just noticed you said on your iPad and iPhone. There are different apps for each device.

Also fine on my iPad on IOS11 - including updating latest IOS and Navionics yesterday.

Could you be using a very old Navionics App - as IOS11 no longer supports “32 bit” Apps so a lot of ancient stuff didn’t carry over from IOS 10

That will be the problem. I used to have an old version of Navionics from when they did a special offer for 99p instead of the £15 or so they were charging at the time. This was officially a different app to the newer ones; Navionics have made a bit of a mess of different versions over the years. I didn’t want to pay for the newer ones since I don’t use my phone for navigation anyway. The old version finally stopped when I got a new phone with iOS 11.

The OP needs to look for the current version of Navionics for his area - hopefully they do one. He will have to pay for the new one, as far as the App Store is concerned it has nothing to do with the old version he’s been carrying forward until now.

Yeah. The technical details: iOS 11 runs on 64 bit CPUs only, and no-longer includes support for 32 bit apps, which iOS 10 had to run in a special "sandbox" which slowed things down and consumed resources.

Apple, to be fair, have been warning for some time (since iOS 9 at least) that 32 bit apps would stop working one day. That day has come. The current version of the Navionics app works fine on iOS 11, but if you have an old 32 bit version, it won't.

The OP definitely needs to upgrade to the current version.
