I've acquired several parts for a Navik windvane gear, shown below, and a parts list from the indistinct Plastimo 'TechGuide'. Certainly there are important bits missing - some relatively easy to make, and others rather harder - I guess.

Would members knowing more than I ( a long list! ) about such things care to guide as to what I should be looking for? Pics/dimensions would be most helpful.... :)

Hmm, you have a bit of a task ahead of you!
We accidentally bought a Navik which was missing some key components, the seller had advertised it as 'complete and working', thanks to the seller and the Vega Owners Association we did locate the missing parts, but I count myself very lucky to have done so.

The hardest bit to replicate will be the 'balancing unit' which is an aluminium casting.
The U-shaped mounting bracket to which everything bolts is 1" stainless tube and a good stainless fabricator could probably make you one.

Thanks, RobWhelton

Yes, I expect some 'delving' needs doing. Perhaps you, or anyone else who has a complete working Navik might be persuaded to provide pics and dimensions of missing units. Given enough data it may be possible to fabricate a replacement for the elusive 'balancing unit' and other bits.

What's known about the 'setting knob'.....?

I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow, in the meantime this link might be of interest...

That would be most helpful, thanks. I have the 'List of spare parts' with reference numbers, but cannot reconcile certain of the items/descriptions with a mental picture - and vice versa. For example, I'm aware from the text of the Plastimo manual of a cast alloy 'balancing unit', but cannot identify that in the parts list....

It may be that that item will need, as will others, to be fabricated.

Here's a few pictures, let me know if there's anything you want in close-up, no trouble as I live on the boat. When I got mine (in bits) was able to have a proper look at one fitted which was very useful. I did see half a Navik on the back of a boat that was up for sale recently, contacted the broker with an offer to remove it, give him something for it and fill & fair the holes in the transom but got nowhere, maybe he had the rest of it in the boat. Maybe worth contacting Mister Vee to see if anyone has traded in the bits you need for a discount on one of theirs? There's a couple on ebay at the moment...

Good luck with it...

That's a great help, thanks, 'djbreeze'. Taken together with the pics on eBay, I now have a rather better idea of what goes where. If I may, I'd like to come back to you at some point for another 'specific' pic and/or a specific measurement....? :)

By all means, quite busy at work for next week and a half but if you send a PM I'll respond quicker...

I see that djbreeze allready linked to my website, I manufacture spare parts for Navik.

I have a spare "balancing unit" that I can sell and maybe even a "U" frame.
I also offer a discount for trading in Naviks against a new self steering system, even when the Navik is incomplete.
