Evening all.

At long last I hope to embark on my passage from Brighton to Bray. I had originally hoped to take it nice and easy and split this into four legs (Brighton to Chatham, Chatham to Chiswick, Chiswick to Chertsey where I'll have the boat lifted to change the anodes) and then Chertsey to Bray. However, personal circumstances mean I may not have the luxury of taking quite as much time.

So the killer question.

I am considering changing my passage to moor overnight at Queensborough just down the Swale so I am nearer the mouth of the Medway and then pushing up the Thames to Chertsey in one go. I think this is just about doable, but wanted to see what others think.

Also posted on the Thames forum just in case.

Thanks as always for any advice.

Can't help with that side of the coast but it sounds like a great trip....we are off to Brighton on the 20th April and are thoroughly looking forward to having Nandos on the doorstep for a couple of days :)

Safe passage to you.

The Chatham stop off will add quite some distance in and out of the Medway. I did the reverse trip the opposite way, stopping at Chelsea Pier then Lime House marina (marvellous), Gravesend on a buoy (noisy and generally horrible industrial part of the river), Ramsgate, Sovereign Harbour, Brighton, then Gosport.

Although not pleasant Gravesend was very practical for an overnight stop with no extra distance. But there is also Greenhithe and Gallions Reach a bit further up.

All without auto helm, and the leg from Ramsgate to Sovereign Harbour was quite a hop.

Beware of the Montgomery as you pass Sheppey.

Cheers - I'm sad to see the back of Brighton - hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Many years ago I did the reverse trip from Racecourse, Windsor to Chichester in a Sealine 255 (that tells you it was MANY years ago!!). We stopped at St Katherines, Ramsgate (fuel only and Brighton. If you get the benefit of the tides that shows you should be able to do it from Brighton with one overnight stop. Fairly hard work though. Have a good and safe trip.

Richard.

As said elsewhere I'd stop at Ramsgate for fuel.overnight then straight up the Thames as far as you can go, with all due respect to the Medway dewellers its a pointless long diversion and there is nothing to much to see.

Thanks for all the responses.

I consider an overnight at Wueendborough to reduce the distance but after some consideration the call of hot showers at Chatham has won me over. I set off on Sunday heading to Chatham (with a spot of lunch in Ramsgate), then Monday its Chatham to Chiswick and possibly onto Chertsey on Tuesday.

Seriously looking forward to it!!

Now I just need some decent weather!

Will do, cheers Richard.
