Navigation Training/Simulation Software

At the moment I am teaching myself about Navigation from a book. I have a copy of the RYA Navigation Exercise which I am working through as I learn but I was wondering if there is a computer software available which can generate questions and solutions for me to work through? The sort of thing I am thinking of is for example for "Course to steer", you select the start point and destination and things like the start date and time, the boats speed etc and the computer will calculate the "course to steer" and display the vector diagrams as you would draw on the chart so you can check what you have done on the paper chart.

RYA training software will provide the ideal base for this comparison. Dont need a great listof questions as it is very easy to make them up yourself based on leaving from your normal port at different times with different destinations, and use the charted tides then add in leeway. You will then be able to check the answer with the RYA simulator, and also ecome familiar with the chart problems from your own port. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Two good books to buy are: 'RYA Navigation Exercises' and 'The Skippers Pocket Book' (by Basil Mosenthal) I am currently on a YM course, these two books are really good.

Longbow Sailing produce a really good CD whilst the RYA sell the 'Electronic Chart Plotter' training CD. I have bought a few books & CD's but narrowing things down IMHO the above are the best without all that confusing 'Rear Admiral purist type garbage that most are written in!'

Despite comments elsewhere I have found the RYA/Admiralty Leisure Electronic Chart Plotter c/w a tutorial by the excellent Tom Cunliffe to be just what you might be looking for.
