Fitted to my bow and stern are Aquasignal Series 50, stainless Bi Lantern and Stern Light respectively, items 3033302000 and 3034002000 listed in the link below.

My Rival 41C is 24V and the bulbs in both the lamps are 24V as expected. I need to replace the units due to corrosion and crazed lenses but the item description states that they are 12V units. NOte that the series 50 is the stainless units which matches what I have already fitted. I can replace them with series 40 units in black plastic.

So, easy question, can one use a 24V/25W bulb in a 12V/25W bulb fitting (note the two bulb voltages and watts are lifted straight from the web page)?

Thanks,

If you check the specs you will I think find that BAY15d fitting bulbs are used across whole series 40 and series 50 lights irrespective of voltage

Thanks for pointing that out, so it's OK.

Doubling the voltage will halve the current, and it us the current that limits the power handling of any fitting. Whether 12 or 24 volts is of no consequence for the safe wring voltage on these low voltage systems.

Therefore yes is my advice, as the critical current flow will be less, not more on a 24 volt fitting.
