Planning a passage next week from Cornwall to north-west Spain: any tips on how you can differentiate between rhumb and great circle on a plotter running Navionics?

Bear in mind the difference between rhumb line and great circle is zero if going north/south, as meridians are already great circles. That, and the short distance (400NM or so), GS won't save much.

In my experience chartplotters have no idea about great circle routes.

Use open cpn to compare the RL an GC routes. Theres not much in it for your route.
I'm wraking my brain I'm sure I saw a great circle option on an old simrad a while back but it's not something I have looked for or come across on any of the newer breeds of plotters.
Weather dictates the course taken as much as the shortest route!
