I have been asked to help a young friend out with any navigational or tactical guidance for next years Round the Island Race. Can anyone here help or point her or me in the right direction as I have never done the race.

ROI race

Nearly every sailing mag. has an article on it that they publish every summer. Even YM. Do a quick search on the index.

Stay in clean air! More often than not you're better off keeping clear of the main fleet and finding your own space - saves crash tacks, heart attacks and losing the wind. Obviously try to make the most of the tides if you can (get a copy of Solent Tides, P>Bruce), but we beat many of the bigger, racier craft this year by simply keeping clear of the traffic where we could.
