Navel knots or should that be nits

Pay no heed to Tim (bless 'im), I enjoyed the tale & had no trouble understanding it, nor did I assume that it referred to the ROYAL navy rather than the Merchant navy. :rolleyes:

You're right it is fairly quiet on here - but I have also been enjoying the tale of the Squatting Bobcat. which I am now starting to believe is constipated. :eek:

Yep I think it's time we all get our coats, when we start getting offencive PM's from MBY staff members. WNS might give a clue.

Why does a funny post from Deborah, have to change into complete nastiness, especially from MBY staff, or employees, whatever. By PM.

I'm tempted to post them here and will do so if needed.

At the moment I am aware that posting private messages, is thought to be bad form.
So I'm holding off a bit.

But I'm sure as eggs are eggs, they will get posted shortly. I've been threatend by a big stick if I post stuff like this and told that they are MBY so have more power.

Fwiw, I was called illiterate, ill-educated and stupid via PM, months ago.
And funnily enough, you might be interested to know that these qualifications were addressed to both myself "and hlb". Maybe you can guess in which occasion, buy if you don't, don't waste a second thinking about that: it doesn't really matter.

But it wasn't for bad form reasons that I neither replied nor posted that PM. It was just because these things are either:
1) just written in anger, hence not really meaningful, or
2) written seriously, hence why give the writer any further attention?
Both ways, it doesn't make sense to follow up.

PS: my guess went for the "softer" option 1 at that time, and based on afterwards experience I think I was right.
The man ain't diplomatic, and is rather strict in his views maybe, but we also are at times, aren't we...? ;)

It was a lighthearted post, to which I responded in what I thought was similar vein. I would have thought " ;) " and "(Ducking and running for cover!)" might have been a bit of a clue.
The first bit of "nastiness" I saw was

So your saying, we should go a bit soft on him, as being a sort of lesser mortal, fair enough then, nuff said, poor bloke.
 
The problem with e-mails & fora is that you do not see the whites of the eyes. You cannot tell what is a tease or what is a snide crack. If you could see the expression on the face & body language it would be clear.

May I suggest we all take a deep breath, back off & try to assume people are always joking? It just makes life easier all round.

Well, actually what I'm saying is that none of us is a lesser mortal, at the end of the day...
I couldn't agree more with Searush anyway. It's a shame that the huge communication possibilities the web can offer are at the expense of a lack of "real" communication.
On a side note, I guess you never had a look at his website, but I'm sure you'd find some of the things he writes interesting.

May I have the temerity to ask what is going on ?

I have obviously missed something - the thread started off normally, went a bit sideways due to the attentions of Fred Rift (sort of helped by me) and at that point I lost the plot.

A PM letting me know what happened would be appreciated.

Mind you, my wife has always said I am expert at missing the point !!!

Go back to the begining & read the thread through again.

There has been a little misunderstanding or three that have lead to people making wrong assumptions & losing the plot slightly. No big deal, it happens all the time.

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough, but the "we don't have to answer" bit was really just meant as a joke.
Anyway, Searush already said it all: yet the usual misunderstandings, which happen all the time.
Btw I had nothing to see with that, so I wasn't really the one to ask for explanations.
My drifting was just based on what hlb said about PMs, and it was actually of interest (if any) only for three of us.

This is the case for Royal Navy officer personnel but you fail to appreciate that the Uk also trains lots of Naval Officers who work in the Merchant service. Fleetwood being one just of these.

I did not "fail to appreciate".
I am well aware that there are at least ten or a dozen nautical colleges in the UK.
I know one of them is Fleetwood
And you will see that I hinted at the likelihood of them being Merchant Navy in my post.

But:-
(a) if you look up "navy" in a dictionary, it refers to "the warships and auxiliary vessels of a nation or ruler" (that definition is from Collins, but I think you'll find most others are similar)
(b)when someone talks about a "naval officer" they usually, in my experience, mean a Royal Navy officer
(c) Mine was a lighthearted comment in reply to a lighthearted post. The smiley and the "ducking and running for cover" were intended as a bit of a clue.
(d) This whole thread became quite acrimonious at one point. I thought we had got over it. Clearly not.

And I would have thought it perfectly reasonable that "someone like myself" might consider my old alma mater.
 
urrm motorboat mby has so very little content these days, I would have thought any poster putting anything on slightly entertaining, would not be nit picked to death, over were the lot in the sailboat were naval from Darmouth, or it seems amazingly naval from Fleetwood.
