Can anyone tell me what naval architects/yacht designers use to create their designs? Obviously some do it by hand, however I'm wondering what the top designers use in the software-only realm.

I don't mean any of the free stuff -

Nick!

Maxsurf, Hydromax, then for CAD and 3D, Rhino, Autocad, Inventor, Catia, Solidworks, Microstation.

A whole host of other smaller more specialised software packages for structures, CFD, FE etc etc

If I remember rightly ansys were involved in the america's cup winning design - pretty expensive and high end stuff

Sorry, a quick google reveals they were involved in aspects of Emirates Team New Zealand design so I stand corrected !
