Nav lights from LED's

Re: Nav lights from LED\'s

Think I read about how to do that in PBO a month or two back. Are you asking how, or what people think of them?

Re: Nav lights from LED\'s

Make sure you get the one with the correct fitting at the bottom of the light. (single contact, dual contact etc)

But the ones on this led site don't have the offset pins BA15d as used in Aquasignal lamps....... Pity - they would certainly save a lot of amps if they could supply them.

Strange! I bought mine there a few weeks ago: it was a bit hidden, but definitely they had a version for Aqua-Signal sockets.

Re: Nav lights from LED\'s

I've just made two anchor lights with ultra-bright LED's. One has 12 LED's and the other has 8.

The 12 unit runs at about 80mA on my test voltage of 15 volts, but I've not checked the mA of the 8 unit - for someone else.

Last week there was the 200year celebration of Mylor Naval Dockyard, and I put my 12 unit up in the cockpit under the cockpit tent. It was pitch dark when we went back to the boat, but the tent was well illuminated.

I used a domestic plastic kitchen tub as the fitting, and drilled around to put the LED's in. Under was a light dependent resistor to switch on at dusk and off at dawn. A tube was araldited in through the middle to take the hanging cord.

12 LED's, 1 LDR, 1 transistor, a 4 way piece of terminal strip, and a cable gland. Took me about 2 hours to make - after the paint on the inside had dried overnight. Total cost, not counting labour, was £9.
