Hello,

I am thinking to upgrade to bigger boat. In the range of 50-55. My first choise was AMEL but my wife do not like her. Šhe is more in to Nauticat 521. I know both boats have good reputation but I do not know any owner to ask for experience, maintanance etc. Help /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I looked at the Nauticat range along with Hallberg Rassy and Niad in 2004 when I was boat hunting. I did not actually look at a 521 but both the models below. In the end I chose a Hallberg Rassy because of the sailing performance. Both the build quality were about the same. With regard to size I was looking at the 53 but decided it was a bit too big. Now I wish I had gone for the larger boat as it looks like we may trade up. I listened to a lot of valued opinions on this forum and at the time decided that the 53 was too big a boat to sail shorthanded with two people. I now know that is not the case, and have met couples cruising on 65' boats without problems.

I agree. We are looking in to Oyster 55 as well (not the new one, ....) I think that size 46-55 is ok for couple that will liveaboard for some period of time. And we like pilothouse or deck saloon configuration.
