Ok so this is going to seem a bit of self promotion but since I have never sold anything to anyone here ( too bloody tight you lot! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I reckon no harm done and perhaps an insight into how the other side of the fence earn a crust and since Ive had a few mails recently with people wanting to know about working in the business and what is it really like and also maybe nice to see some places some forumites may have never seen.

Twas a busy ole week and this just the start of the season, first off... Tuesday... gotta get our 39 over to Wales for 100 hour service and since we are delivering new one there thought kill two birds with one stone, also have to check out a part ex and see all is ok and everything as the owner describes before paperwork changes hands. Well forecast said ok, reality on the early am was...its pants, take a hammering for the first half hour and give up, no point in bashing through this lot for 102 miles so turn back and pop her back on the berth, off load all the Pdi gear and load into car and head for the seacat. Arrive Liverpool mid PM and drive to Pwllheli and eventually find the hotel late on and crash out.

Wed early morning driver of transport rings to say Police escort has turned up and they will arrive at Pwllheli around 09.30 so breakfast and off down the marina. Very surprised at the size of the place, a very well run and extremely tidy marina, would say size wise on par with Hamble Point our south coast base with probably just as many sub contractors and service companies on site only alot more neat and tidy, everything looks brand new!. I believe its run by the local council and a very fine job they are doing too.

This is the view from the town looking towards the marina.......

Locate Volvo agent and run through the days itinerary and what he wants to do first and and when he wants to do the sea trial, plan of action is to get the props on and get her in the water and then tow her round to her new berth and start the Pdi there, we can also start building up the radar arch bits and un wrapping the interior and start the spit and polish bit.

09.30 and on cue the transport arrives and we start unwrapping the exterior................

Pop the props on and get towed round to her berth........

Phone the new owner who is about fit to burst with excitement but persuede him it would be better to see his new boat once she is all sparklely tomorrow, give him the schedule and time to turn up tomorrow for the handover.

Volvo get on with the Pdi and hook up the computer and start the set up stuff........................

Once they finish we head over to the fuel berth and take on 400 litres.......................
Murphy-MickApril07019.jpg

By late afternoon we are well on the way to having everything done and we head out for a sea trial, except oh dear no water in the channel! so turn around and berth her again and wait for the tide......

Murphy-MickApril07021.jpg

Head off up the town and find lovely italian and have some diner. Head back down around 19.30 and take her out again to do the sea trials, we don't want any hicups tomorrow and if anything needs doing better sort it tonight.

Spend about an hour out and run everything up to temperature and then max her out top end and check off our estimated figures for acceleration, top speed, cruise rpm V's speed etc etc. No problems and everything goes according to plan so head back in.................

Finish off the engine Pdi and head back to hotel and crash out again

Next morning arrive early at marina and start the spit and polish bit, we're tight for time as the owner is arriving mid morning so we pull in a couple of extra guys we had already pre arranged should the need arise. All hands to the pumps and finish about half an hour before the new owner arrives.

New owner is a really nice guy and quite easy going if a bit over excited to get on with the sea trial and handover (who wouldn't be).

After the obligatory walk through the boat and check with him all the options have been fitted and supplied by the yard as we have requested and check everything works and functioning normally we head off out.

Of course right at the start the phone goes, typical!, anyway its SonVida 11 checking to confirm RV point and time for Friday's Dublin raid on the Isle of Man, we have a quick chat reckon we've got it all sorted..............
Murphy-MickApril07026.jpg

A bit of instruction to the new owner and run him through the various nav stuff and switch gear.............
Murphy-MickApril07027.jpg

And he's off, one very happy man.................
Murphy-MickApril07030.jpg

Takes us on a tour or his local haunts while putting her through her paces, I always leave the helming on these handovers to the new owner as they generally know every rock and cranny where as I am constantly looking at charts and watching out for stuff and no time to talk. Have to say he knows his boat handling and soon is throwing her round good style.................

Can't remember the islands just up the coast but I am sure someone here will know, very beautiful and unsploit area, promise to self will come back on our own this summer for a proper look.............

owner is one happy man! even plops her straight in to her berth first time no problems................

Quick bite to eat and we meet up with transport again to check over the part ex that has just arrived on another deal and true to his word the client has described her bob on, very nice little boat with twin diesels and only 21 hrs use, we sign off the paperwork and let the guys get on with loading her to take her back to Hamble.......

Pack up the Volvo again and head off to Liverpool to catch the 20.00 sailing, arrive totally bushed to find it is over booked and are being sent to Heysham for the 02.00 morning sailing, just great!!. arrive around 11.00 at Heysham and hang around till 01.00 board and she sails on time, arrive IOM at 06.00 and fall into bed totally whacked, still not too much sleep those mad men from Dublin are arriving later today so have to get fuel and arrange bridge lifts and berths for the arriving posse.

Now the next instalment of the weekends frivolities will have to be toned down a bit for fear of upsetting those of a nervous disposition!....more to follow

Trevor, firstly the island is Bardsey and secondly, I call for Keith to have this thread pulled before the place gets swamped by wheel stealing southerners.

I have learned to say on here that North Wales is a dreadful place, stuffed with boats and the Menai Straits are the most foul and dangerous waters in the UK.

I hear the Irish are invading next month. We can deal with them, but not with two thousand Solent Sailors looking for a bit of blue water.

By the way, great post otherwise and I could almost feel the owner's joy.

Don't worry, Haydn will be soon here to disillusion you that anyone from the Solent travels outside. Wokingham crowd are the only ones you need to worry about, and they haven't mentioned Wales yet.

Fantastic post Trev.
I do love that boat, and always wondered what it would be like to order one, well now i know, i just wish it was me in those pics and not the guy whos wearing Garfield's smile!!!
Your boat prep and handover sound superb, and you did a lot in a very short time, one thing you might want too add to your final handover is free membership to the YBW.com Forums, that way we can all read about the delights of owning an Absolute. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking forward to reading your censored version of the Dublin evasion, and receiving the un-censored version in my in-box!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great pics, thanks again,

Cheers

I thought it was St Tuds

[/ QUOTE ]

I stand corrected. I just saw a picture of an island and assumed they had gone further out. St Tudwal's is prolly the one, as its sister islet is lighthouseless.

Just been re-reading your post and wondered, do modern engines still need to be run in? I see you maxed her out, is this ok with such a new engine, or is it part of a PDI and needs to be done with a Volvo Technician onboard?

Cheers

Al.
