Anyone remember those navy blue fleece jackets from the '70's/80's? Javelin I think they were called?

Don't suppose they're still around anywhere :confused:

For some strange reason I want one :rolleyes:
 
Fibre-pile jackets they were called.

PBO reviewed quite a few different makes in PBO 190 ( October 1992) .

Javelin and Tog 24 see to have come out as a couple of the best. I have a Tog24 but was never impressed and in fact have hardly ever worn it!

Some cheapies but most were in the £15 - £30 price range. Although Equinoxe offered a couple, described by PBO as "opulent" made of chloro-fibre ( that's the stuff that Damart use for their thermal underwear IIRC) fur stitched to a proofed nylon for over £50.

At the time Javelin were advertised by a very attractive young lady, who I later discovered was only 15 yrs old at the time.:eek:

SWMBO still has her waterproof/windproof outer version from 24 years ago and still wears it now. And she looks every bit as good as that young lady, even in her bus pass pic!:)

As a kid I remember my dad's red one (just like in Lakey's picture) hanging in the cupboard we used to play in. However, I think he threw it away along with his yellow PVC oilies of equal vintage. After 15 years or so away from sailing, the PVC troosers split right across the bum as he was struggling into them in the cabin of a small chartered dayboat :D

The fuzzy jacket was a "javelin jacket".

If you hung up your Javelin in a Hamble pub, it was advisable to pin a badge on the collar first or you'd be trying on thirty or more before you could leave... I may still have one at the back of the wardrobe still waiting for me to sew a new zip in.

The true Javelin ones had an outer surface that was coated or maybe heat treated so it didn't 'pill' or 'bobble' like many of the cheaper copies. The Javelins we had went oner better still with an outer proofed nylon skin that is shower and windproof. I'm surprise nobody has yet posted the Javelin ad pictures, should be in Lakey's files. It was up there with the bare bum tennis player girl pic almost.
 
Aha the unusual spelling explains my lack of google success, apologies for bringing the subject up again, I've since found previous threads on here.

It appears they were being reproduced in the UK up until a few years ago.

Sounds like quite a few people still have them tucked away in the back of a wardrobe somewhere, if anyone has one that's not covered in anti foul then I would be interested in buying!
 
A cheapo copy of the Javelin jacket was my first item of nautical clothing, would have been about 1978, I recall it was £7 ( Or £9?) and bought from the original Alladins Cave, the barge on Blundell Lane.
