Naughty boy!

To date, what's been gained by posting the original vid? Nothing but questions and doubt.

So why not either ignore the fact that someone's in the wrong and shrug your shoulders and mutter under your breath or, as was the case, show it to the lockie for him to do the dirty deed. IMO it's not up to us to shout "wash", "slow down" or "speeding" - we ain't the EA or police. Yes, rightly report it if that's what you feel is the right thing to do but if we all posted speeding and wash videos every weekend, we'd be inundated with such threads as these issues seem so commonplace at the moment. Sooner or later, the accused party at the time, is going to do a 180 midriver and come back to give it large and the situation escalates . Let the river rage begin .

The small, easily identifiable boat at the centre of this thread is now tarred as an irresponsible boat, regardless of who's at the helm. The Thames ain't a perfect world but let's all try and get on together and put incidents like this behind us and enjoy the river. There's more than one or two so called idiots out there day in day out who upset our leisure time but as soon as we hit on one boat, another one appears.

That seems like a very sensible post ^

You must have a lot of spare time to go to such lengths shooting video of people, downloading video, uploading to Youtube, posting on here and then complaining about him!

Have you at any time thought about how you come across and how you have possibly tainted a young person's formative boating experiences by complaining about him? :(

Wash on a boat - just deal with it or get a canal boat :D

I don't have a view on the original post or its video I don't think It's conclusive enough I would if I could have seen it or it be clearer in the video.
My point is some people seem to be saying get used to excessive wash get over it.
That is not on.

Excessive wash is caused by idiots anyone who thinks this acceptable can only be of the same ilk.

No one's condoning excessive wash, it's the way we as individuals deal with it. Some just accept it as a fact of boating on the Thames (and other waterways), others want the whole world to know about it . Each to their own but IMO, posting comments on wash and speed isn't going to make the problem go away. Yes, most responsible boaters know it's unacceptable and anti social but how do you get the message over to every boat on the river .

Wash is subjective, speed isn't. Speed can be measured by the EA and you're either speeding or you're not. Take the Broads Authority byelaws http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/...ting/speed-limits/Speed_Limit_Byelaws1992.pdf for example:

No person while navigating any light sports vessel in
accordance with Byelaw 6 or any coaching vessel in
accordance with Byelaw 7 shall cause the vessel to make
a sustained wave, against a bank, of more than 300mm
(12 inches) in height from trough to crest.

Now just to try to prove that someone's wash is excessive . Perhaps the EA have something similar relating to the Thames?

Just what is excessive wash and at what point point does it become an unaccpetable nuisance? Again, we're not the river "police", so accusing someone of excessive wash can be damning.

At the moment the river is not flowing too fast if everyone stuck to the five mph speed limit there would be very little wash from any type of boat . Do some people need reminding what boating on the thames is about . Relax take life slowly. Then go back to daily life going faster than we should do, or want to.

But that's what you think its about.

People use the river for lots of different reasons and your assuming everybody has the same reasons as you.

It's nice to see where you stand on this as my post stated sticking to the speed limit need not create much wash . And you think that its my neeeds and not The majority of thames users who don't want numptys speeding . Obviously we know who you must be

Well looking at the original post I think comparatively speaking, my deep V hull creates quite a lot of wash when travelling at the speed limit actually. Bearing in mind we always use a GPS I know we usually travel quite a bit slower than the speed limit.

My issue is you come across as intolerant to anybody that doesn't share your expectation of the river. I feel strongly that it doesn't belong to any group, everybody should be encouraged to use it. People who have a BBQ on the bank, sit in the marina having a drink, (dare I say it) rowing, sailing, swimming, fishing, dog walkers etc etc all have a right to use it. Its totally wrong to assume that everybody wants to travel slowly and unwind. Some people use it for transport, to keep fit, to socialise, to eat, to relax etc.

Yes we all should stick to the speed limit and most people do this but the increasing intolerance to one person going POSSIBLY faster than the speed limit is quite quite mad!

If you want to put me down as a "speed freak" in a minority group of hooligans go for it, I really don't care.

CJL

Intolerant?

But I regularly drink in the Marina, Walk Dogs along the bank, Take my tender for a spin, Fish, Swim (In the Thames!) and much more.

However, I'm NOT one of those people who Drink far too much, and then waken the Marina dwellers at 3AM, Let my Dogs **** all over the bank/pontoon, Jump from bridges, or razz up and down in the tender upsetting everybody.

I enjoy the Thames, because it's a good place to escape from scummy people as places go, so don't mind expending a little effort trying to keep it that way.

Oh and CJL, seriously, that video was taken in 30 seconds, uploaded in ten and it takes a minute or two to complain. Get a decent Smartphone and see how effortless things are :D
Of course I had a lot of time, I only cruise at 5mph

Next Sat weather permitting I shall be travelling from Penton to Windsor in our dory which has a filthy blue smoking Yamaha 50 on the back ...

I am going to open a book now on how many times I will be told to slow down, cut my wash or just generally shouted at by some beer swilling overweight so and so stuck fast in his fold up chair ...
