I was wondering if anyone can help with a query about forthcoming travel within europe/mediterranean area - the yacht is registered outside the eu (eg. Australia) but the captain and crew hold both UK and Australian passports. Is it possible to travel within the eu by yacht utilising the UK passports or is do you have to have the same nationality as your vessel? Is this an issue? We've only sailed using our Oz passports in other areas of the world. It gets a little complicated when we can remain indefinitely within the EU but the yacht only has 18 months. Any thoughts on this would be most welcome. We do not intend keep the yacht in the eu longterm as we intend to only temporarily import whilst having a look round. Thanks

You shouldn't have any problems using your UK passports with an AUS reg vessel. It is only the Australian registration authorities who want to know that you have Aussie residency. You will find an amazing lack of interest in your passport at ports in France and Italy under normal circumstances. We sailed our AUS registered boat around the med for 5 seasons. Send me a PM if you want to have a chat.

No problem with Oz registerd boat and UK passports.

Some countries are very weary of uncontrolled chartering (Med especially) and it should be very clear that the guy shown as owner (or skipper) on your registration document is clearly the guy on the UK passport.

My website may help you plan some places to visit . . .
