As we've had very low/high tides this last day or so, I took these photos of Nash Sands yesterday (Sept. 9th) at LW in the afternoon. Predicted ht. of tide was 0.3m above chart datum. Shows why we need to give them a wide berth, or use the inner passage (which a yacht did yesterday right on LW)!

Near disarster on Nash Sands

I was travelling down the inside passage from Swansea to Cardiff. I was in my Newbridge Virgo Voyager. During my planning I missed the tidal surge arrow which subsequently swept me onto the Nash Sands. I managed to escape through a quick jibe and the power of my Beta Marine. My adivse to all those who try the inside passage is to make sure they can keep the bearing to the light house and watch for the sudden surge.

By the look of that, you were past the worst when you gybed. With 20-20 hindsight, it may have been better to just keep going.

Hmm. Never noticed that curved arrow on my charts before - I shall look to see if its there.

Confused of Bristol.

As most people who know me would understand, I'm easily confused! When I was out sailing on 10/9/12 it was neaps, so Nash sands would have remained covered. As started trying to word a comment, I realised the photo and thread are two years old! Great pictures though and very useful.
I too will check my charts and chartplotter for the arrow. It would be nice to know of any others in the channel.

Trapezeartist,
I can tell you that at the time that the jibe seemed the only thing to do and the waters on our port side seemed a lot worse than what we had already crossed.
