We have been from Bristol to Swansea twice with few problems, however I keep reading about getting through the Nash Passage (inshore route) before the tide turns.
Am I right in assuming that I need to be on an ebbing tide to avoid rough water during this part of the trip?
Previously I have been very fortunate with the weather and have travelled on an almost flat sea. Apart from Swansea Bay, where I understand the tide runs in a clockwise direction for 10 hours?
Porthcawl, past Port Talbot and up to the entrance of the marina was a little lumpy!
We can travel at around 25 kts and leaving Bristol on the 1st lock out Saturday should we take the insore route between the sand banks or keep ofshore and come right up the middle of Swansea Bay?
Any advice more than appreciated as I guess in the past we have been quite lucky with the sea state and the weather.

Cheers

Nash

Nash passage is fine in good weather but be aware that in fresh wind against tide situation the Eastern approach to the passage can be lumpy. In strong wind against spring tide extremely lumpy.

The Eastern end of the passage is also quite narrow with a rocky foreshore on one side and sand bank on the other so only attempt if confident of your navigation and in good visibility.

We have done it a few times in f7 ish weather and inside is much better providing your nav is spot on.Worst bit is poping out into Swansea bay.

hey sneds, at that kind of speed it does'nt really make much difference either way tbh, worth doing once if just for the excitement/scenery/say you've done it values..lol.

Have to agree, "popping out" into Swansea Bay the last time was a bit lumpy!

Solitaire, you must get down there the water is soooooo different - green. But still bl00dy cold!

Like wise, anyone else going? Boat Show at Swansea, Mike, Ronan?

Sneds can't make it as I am in Scilly still ... Weather is very good so far my farmers tan looks great just need to get the other White bits in the sun err does that sound wrong. Any way water is very clear down here but very cold. A few mobos have started to appear so feeling much better as there are lots of raggies down here don't blame them as if you can make the trip it's worth it when you are here.

Got back from Swanea this PM - took the indore route past Nash Point on the way there, and came back via Port Eynon taking the (way) offshore route.
Great trip.
