NASA wind transducer

I am familiar with the windcups going west on the NASA wind transducer but have noticed that the newer model comes with a white masthead unit. Is this more resilient than the older black unit or is it just wishful thinking. What alternatives are any use? Raymarine? Would need to intergrate a close hauled meter too.

my 'new to me' boat has a white mast head unit, on delivery we lost one of the cups. i found a new, still in package 'black' cup unit in one of the lockers. not wanting to go up the mast to find the black one would not fit i bought a new white cup unit. on inspection i found it is identicle to the white one. unsure if the white unit will last longer than the black one tho

Thanks Bert. Seems that it may shed parts as quick as the black one did. Wish they would improve it.

Could be they changed from black to white as less heat retention or UV damage? I had one and ditched it but if I was to have one again it would be one of those Tack Tick wireless ones, but for the cost not enough benefit to bother. I just fitted a Windex...

Stick to wool telltales on the shrouds, a wind direction job at the masthead and 'how comfortable / frightened am I ? !
