Nasa Weatherman- any users?

You have me worried now, I'm not absolutely certain what I fitted. The boat is in Greece, so not possible to check.

I wrote mFd in my maintenance book. I am very familiar with the need to write the correct units and assume that I would have written it as 'mu' if that's what it was. However, if NASA have told you it should be micro i would believe them before me!

Thanks Vyv for pointing out the errror in my previous post so i'll try again.

Is anyone using a Nasa Weatherman??
Any comments on the usefullness or otherwise in the Med / Atlantic Portugal and Spain appreciated.

FYI we have a Navtex viewable thro a PC, which i don't find as usefull as a stand alone unit on permanent display.

I never had a Weatherman but saw one on a number of occasions. A sensible bit of kit that worked well. I did use the same info via my SSB receiver and a laptop. In our early days in the Med (2000) it was very useful for outlook purposes with its 5 day forecasts at a few well chosen locations.

Later on, as GRIB services developed, it became less relevant. Latterly, I hardly ever used the service getting enough from the GFS.

See also http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/Meso-Scale-Models. As far as I am aware, the only meso-scale models in the Med that use a good data analysis are the Spanish Met Service – AEMet, LaMMA, the Croatian Met Service and the Greek Met Service.

The best service overall should now be the Turkmet service http://212.175.180.126/DENIZ/DTS/sea.php.

This is output from the ECMWF global model. That uses the maximum amount of data possible. Being a global model it should be useful out to 5 days ahead – having no lateral boundaries.

As I write it is not available but I think (hope) that is a comms problem.

I have found the best weather forecaster is the Internet , you can always find one that will suite you ,
