which will work equally well with both plastic echo sounder and log impellor housings.
As mentioned above a backing pad is good practice so make this of a non oily kiln dried hardwood and attach to the planking using Sikaflex and 4 screws, or if you are really pessemistic through bolt it. Epoxy the backing pad well, particularly the end grain.
Then drill and install the housing as per manufacturers instructions, ie hand tight only with the retaining nut.
Then apply the fillet of thickened epoxy over the retaining nut and down onto the hardwood backing pad where it will bond nicely.
Now if the external flange ever sheers off the housing stays firmly attached to the backing pad which stays firmly attached to the planking. No more sleepless nights.
If someone can pm me how I will post some pics of cracked plastic through hulls to concentrate the mind!
