Hi, It may be perfectly OK - but...
I've just launched a new (to me) boat with a NASA Target 2 depth sounder (also new to me)
The depth looks correct(ish) but the word DEPTH blinks approximately every second.
Is this ok and expected?

Many thanks
Keith

Have one on my Squib. I would check the transducer is fully down in its tube and is properly immersed in the oil bath. If possible you could check it out by removing the head from the tube and dangling it directly into the water - assuming the cable is long enough.
If not this then check the cable has not been cut; check the quality of connection of the transducer cable into the head.

Manual here :- http://www.nasamarine.com/images/file/Target 2 Log, Depth + Wind.pdf but cant see any fault signs mentioned.

Failing that I would phone NASA, they are very helpful.

I had one my last boat that used to do that in really shallow water - around 1 metre. In deeper water it was fine. I assumed that it was a shallow water alarm and the previous owner had set the threshold.

When an alarm is set there should be a bell symbol on the display. When the alarm is triggered the symbol flashes and the audible alarm sounds. Or so says the instructions

Target depth sounder.

The word DEPTH shows when the sounder is receiving ehoes. If the unit misses an echo then it will display the last reading and turn off the DEPTH word as a warning. If it flashes only intermittantly then it's no problem. If it occurs regularly it's worth checking the installation of the transducer as the echo may be weak.

:D:D Thats wot I said....:D:D

I have had this problem in the past where the blinking has been slightly eratic and each time it has proved to be a bad connection in the coax cable
