Having spent hours fidling with my boat's electrics, I took apart my NASA Target 2 Depth and Log instruments to find the fault. Not an electrician, could someone assist in identifying the black resistors??? that have clearly blown and where I may be able to purchase replacements with a speedy delivery? Also, there was fluff within the instruments which seems to have come from the capacitor??? Could this also be a fault?

Please see the attached photos of the instrument circuits.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Thwe buff coloured components with coloured bands are resistors. The colours of the bands indicate their values.

The black thing(s) with a silver band at one end are diodes. They usually have a number printed on them.

I assume the larger furry thing on the right of the second picture is an electrolytic condenser ( capacitor) certainly defective

I think returning it to Nasa for repair might be the sensible course of action.

With NASA boat instruments there is not much point in even opening up the case as NASA themselves are so quick and cost effective.

I had a clipper weather fax stopped working after the winter lay up.

I phoned NASA and sent it to them.

It required - an internal battery, a piece of pcb track repaired and a new display.

I had it back in a few days all fully functioning for about £50.
