Nasa sx35 dsc radio: how to change from int\'l to UK channels?

Does anyone know how to do this, please?

I've downloaded the manual, but no hints there.

I've played around with the buttons and menus without success.

Thanks for any ideas.

The display seems to indicate that it can be programmed for USA, International or Canadian frequencies

BUT does this statement on page 13,
"Your SX 35 DSC is designed for use with the International VHF marine channel frequencies plus authorized local channel frequencies. Only authorized dealers can program other approved country channels, where specifically allowed by government regulations, by using the 8 pin com connector."
imply that it can only be set to the USA or Canadian frequencies by an authorised dealer?

Definitely cannot see anything in the manual indicating how it can be changed by the user.

Only the International frequencies are listed on pages 51 and 52

I thought that International channels were the ones used in the UK; ie. no need to change.

You're confirming my fears, Vic! ie that it's an imported unit(maybe from US) and will need a trip to an agent to be reprogrammed (for a charge, no doubt). 'twas on the motorboat when we bought her.

I bought a Raymarine DSC radio for the catamaran a couple of years ago..that was dead easy to change from int'l to UK, and I was (am?) hoping the Nasa can be too.

Thanks anyway for taking the time to look.

Unfortunately not. eg int'l channels jump straight from channel 28 to 60.

That's what every VHF that I've ever owned, ( in the UK ), has done, except for ch 37. Am I missing out?

May be I'm getting it wrong but as I read it the International frequencies are for the UK, M1 and M2 being included.

There are some channels that are single frequency (simplex) in the US that are two frequency (duplex) in the international set. Don't know off hand about Canadian frequencies.

At switch on you should see the screen illustrated on page 12 which should indicate which frequency set is programmed, INT in the illustration. That will be the indication you'd expect for the UK.
If it says USA or CAN then you'll need a dealer

I'd expect to see M1 and M2 sandwiched between 88 and 00 if you scroll through the channels but I dont know how you'd enter them directly from the key pad. Maybe the table on page 14 is the clue.

At least we've found instructions in English. last time I tried a similar exercise (on another forum) I was trying to follow instructions in Swedish!

Your question is "how to change from int'l to UK channels?". You don't have to do anything. The International channel set is the one used in the UK.

Re: Nasa sx35 dsc radio: how to change from int\'l to UK channels?

As others have said the international channels are what you need here.

You may find on that set that M1 and M2 are not present?

Re: Nasa sx35 dsc radio: how to change from int\'l to UK channels?

Is it you that's missing out?.....oops.....no it's me missing a few brain cells!

You're absolutely right. Now I think a bit more, I had to change my Raymarine vhf from US to Int'l, not, as I misremembered this afternoon, from Int'l to UK.

Notes to self for coming season:

- revise vhf channels before the coming season
- double check before posting daft queries on a public forum!

Anyway...many thanks to all for solving my non-existent problem!

Now, how do I get the ground to swallow me up?

[/ QUOTE ]Rather than speculate, why not look at the manual? It says...

Your SX 35 DSC VHF Transceiver is designed for operation in the marine VHF FM frequency band. The operating frequency range is 156.025 to 163.275 MHz which includes all currently allocated international channels and United Kingdom M and M2 marina channels.
