My Navtex6 is showing error messages on both frequencies and to replace the antenna/receiver is not much less than buying the above.

On top of which BBC shipping forecasts on 198 KCs using this kit are much more likely to be accessible up here than MCA Stornoway's weather offerings.
The sales material also states thatWeather data is also available for download to a laptop "Minimum system requirements: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Pentium processor, mouse and sound card".

As a Mac user this is where I could easily forget the whole thing, however SWMBO has a laptop running XP which can be made available.

So friends, advice please, is the NASA kit up to the job, and is there perhaps MAC software available to interpret the data?
Thanks Gerry:confused

That Nasa SSB is a rebadged Target Communications Receiver and quite well thought of in the amateur radio world. It should do as good a job of receiving weather fax and other transmissions as any other non-professional receiver, but I'm not sure that it is an alternative to Navtex. Depends really on what you want from your Navtex - there certainly are weather forecasts broadcast on shortwave SSB, but none of the other navigational warnings. Also, you are going to need a tolerable computer running.

I'm sure you can find suitable software available to run on the Mac - HF Fax is a common mode of transmission.

SSB receiver.

I've had the nasa hf3w for some years. Connected to my insulated backstay antenna it performs well. It's easy to use and produces good wefax pictures when connected to my pc. I have not tried it on a mac computer but have heard that there is software available for it (or any other receiver) online from Black Cat. (or perhaps it's Black Kat)
