My Nasa navtex Pro hasn't worked for years most likely because the aerial has failed.I was going to get a new aerial but now the display has gone dark .Where could I send the unit for repair?I can't find it on their website.

Silly question, but it hasn't just had the contrast turned right up, has it? Should be a knob on the back, I think.

Before you send it off, try adjusting the contrast. on mine, this is a not very obvious white spindle in the back of the set.
I had a similar problem with my Navtex Pro.
The aerial died from water ingress, a new aerial fixed that but the unit wouldn't work the following year.
I took it to NASA at London Boat Show and an engineer said they could mend it but it is old [2000] and do you want to spend money on it.
He had a point.
Anyway, this weekend I reconnected it before chucking, and it worked, just needed a holiday?
NASA are helpful if you get hold of the right person.

I think the contrast might be worked off the buttons at the front, can't quite remember.
If you have the standard, older aerial try taking it apart, giving it a blast of WD 40 and letting it dry in the sunshine (if and when). Look to see if any tracks have corroded on the board and if so clean with a cotton bud and look for, and remove, any short circuiting between tracks. I have got mine going a couple of times with this treatment. They do like to be dried out now and again.
I have heard it said that a length of coax attached to the backstay will do the job of the aerial but I have never tried it.

I've checked the instructions, and the contrast control is definitely on the back as I thought. Dan's "non-obvious white spindle" sounds familiar from the one I had. Not that I ever used it - came with the boat, took it off along with all the other electronics during refit, and couldn't see the point of refitting it on a 24-foot coastal cruiser.
