I have just had a repair to my Nasa Clipper Wind Indicator head. So much cheaper than a new one. I need to share this with others. I was going to replace, and found a way better alternative... Repair.

I had a problem with a NASA LCD screen that became invisible!. Contacted NASA and they fixed it in less than a week and returned it. Not expensive and decent service I reckon:)

I sent them a Navtex receiver which never received messages but otherwise seemed fine. They claimed that as soon as they looked at it, the LCD module - which had been working perfectly when I sent it - had failed and replaced it without even asking me. Yeah, right.

I trust NASA customer service is better now than I was subjected to in the 1990's, which basically amounted to ' you've paid your money - foolishly - now f**k off ! '

I get the idea from chums and these forums that the wind direction / speed job is still a problem, but NASA kit which doesn't involve moving parts is fine; I have a Clipper depthsounder which is spiffing, a chum has a Target depth which does equally fine work.

Just don't get one of their wind units unless you have a bosun's harness, head for heights and a robust sense of humour ! :)

I have had very good service from my NASA wind - I have had it 10 years and it was second hand when I got it! I have also found NASA very helpful - one repair and a fix by e-mail in that time.

Does it still work and give reliable readings ?

If it does you're in line for some sort of prize...:)

No less reliable than a Raymarine
They have spinning parts and require replacing every few years
