NASA Clipper Duet-no speed reading...

Help! My Duet powers up, and the depth works fine, but I have no speed reading. I assumed it was a faulty paddlewheel unit so I have just got an entire new unit, plugged it into the back of the readout unit, blow tested it and the speed is still just zero.

Any thoughts? I'm off to the channel islands in a fortnight...really need to get it working and this is the last day I'm on board beforehand. Is there anything I can do apart from remove the unit and get it back to NASA?

Check all connections? Find someone with the same unit and try both transducers in theirs.

These devices are built to a budget, but I have found NASA to be very responsive to email queries. Try phoning them and explaining your situation. How old is the unit? Are you certain there has been no water ingress?

NASA customer support is great in my (first-hand) opinion. I have a similar problem ...only it's depth that isn't playing ball. Reckon that it's interference that's happened since I replaced some older cabin lights with LEDs, as I've replaced all the components and had them double-checked by NASA.

Still not sure how to fix it, but pretty sure I know what the problem is.

Just had the same problem on a NASA duette. First thing I did was to change the paddle, That sorted it out. Then the depth stopped working. There were two problems, the coax plug into the back of the display was broken. Replaced the plug, then I got it running intermittently. Second fault, the centre pin on the rear of the display had split open wider. Sorted it using a pair of pliers.

Those faults may also apply to your log.

Hangover in Cowes + not RTFMing + piece of trim partly obscuring back of instrument + mild sunstroke + YBW forum + paddle wheel cable possibly in echo sounder socket = very embarrassed...

My speed on he duette stops reading from time to time and is always the rf plug the back of he unit. I induced a bend in the cable that tensions the connection and problem has resolved.
