Either it's down to installation in one way or another, or I've been very lucky with my Clipper Depth, it has always worked well and as I say I operate from a soft mud mooring in a largely soft mud harbour; it reads correctly right to and even beyond the point the ballast bulb of the raised keel touches.
The transducer is in an oil filled tube inside the hull forward of the keel, slightly to starboard.
