Thank you so much - all diagrams help greatly so can now get this sorted. I've just bought the monitor (compact version) but the instructions did not have the Figure 2 diagram you had included in the other post. I'll probably go with the original bus bar solution. Thanks again. Nick.
Actually the display on the meter consumes a very low amperage itself. Not sure its as much as 0.1 amp though. 0.1 amp is negligible but with a 200 amp battery bank that would take 40 days to reduce it to 50% charge. Do you have anything else on the boat with a permanent drain like a clock??? Do your batteries actually run down appreciably if you leave the boat idle for a month or so?

A No. The BM1/BM2 is designed to be permanently connected to the
battery. It is independently fused, and draws only 1.5mA from the
battery. At such a low current, it would take several years to
discharge a typical fully-charged marine service battery.
