NASA AIS Engine - charting

Like many others I`ve bought the NASA AIS engine. There is no charting software included other than a very basic `global` chart. I also have the Maptech`s Offshore Navigator `Lite` charting software which doesn`t support AIS. If I spent another £ 300.00 I could get the version that does. I`d just be interested to see how others are combining this AIS with some charting software - cheaply. I am restricted to running all this on an on-board laptop.

I use SOB (from Digiboat in Australia) already has AIS function and GRIB function plus all other 'normal' charting functions. Costs about 20 pounds for a licence for three PCs and can either be downloaded or sent on CD. Works with C-Map (and C-Max) charts. Regular upfates and new functions (free!!) and has a good user forum.

Nasa provide a copy of seaclear and sob with their engine. Vic Mallow answered this question on this site on 21-3-08.

personally prefer to keep AIS and chart seperate on the same lappie. I share the GPS feed using Franson GPSGate.
I use www.shipplotter.com software for AIS, and use a calibrated satelllite image as the backdrop - I could use a chart, but prefer the de-cluttered image.
I can switch quickly between AIS and chart plotter (Maxsea) and regardless of which is on top, the AIS will provide an audible warning of a ship whose CPA is within a certain distance/time.
