Narrow boat rescue.

Laying in bed this morning listening to the BBC,on a December morning with below freezing temps and severe weather warnings given out.
Surely I dreamed this.

"Narrow boat rescued from Humber Estuary last night after engine failure, skipper suffering from hypothermia......Argh.
Perhaps it was Santa Claus.

Yes it wasnt a narrow boat acording to the release:

"We find it very hard to believe anyone would put to sea in a small motor cruiser, so poorly prepared, with little sea going knowledge, in the dead of night in such conditions and with the weather forecast to get worse. My Watch team and I do not think that they realise how dangerous the situation was that they were in."

Says there it was a small motor cruiser!

Sorry, refering to my last post when i said f8 not a problem i meant if in a deep keel yacht.

It IS a problem, whatever the size, if you don't know what you are doing !!!

My boat is Cat B (IIRC up to F8 and 4mtr seas) but my personal limit is way below that (comes under the heading of - over the years, been there, done that, got the T Shirt and don't intend doing it again -ever).

Did i hear that they used to cross the North sea, two narrowboats lashed together? Can't find a reference.

Yes - that's right. I met up with the guy on the Thames a few years back. He was going to the Black Sea single handed. He was in London & I went a few miles with him to keep an eye on him. But he seemed to know a bit. He'd panelled over all the windows & had safety & nav stuff on board. HOWEVER, I think I heard that he sank somewhere in the North Sea on the way back.
