Napoli Containers

I don't know about you guys but I've always assumed that you get floating containers one at a time. The TV footage of the Napoli shows assemblages of four of them still together after beaching. I find the thought of running into that many very scary indeed.

Apparently there's only been 60 odd washed up out of the 200 that fell off. Means the English channel is a bit of a minefield at the moment.

I also thought that beach combing below the high water line was fine????? Finders keepers and all that. Why are the local plod trying to keep people away? Where has the tale of dangerous goods that cause burning to the skin gone, or was that all bullcrap story to keep combers away?

If, as has been done in years gone by, the ships were lead to disaster by hiding lights and showing them else where so as to lure the ship into peril, then you can not touch the cargo,

Apparently you have to notify the Official Receiver of Wrecks so they can revover it from you if they so wish, otherwise it's theft.

Ah... the Receiver of Wreck. For years I've imagined this would be an elderly gentleman of sizeable proportion, dressed in somber black, complete with tricornered hat. While seeing the news yesterday, the illusion was shattered as he ... is a nice young lady with a knitted bonnet...
