I have recently bought my first boat, a 16ft falkland fisher. I have chosen a name, but can I use this name if someone maybe already using this name? Are there laws + regulations with regards to this? How can I find out if the name is already being used? Regards Neil.

You can call it anything you want.

Only time you cannot use a name that's been used before is if you put the boat onto the part 1 register, which you are highly unlikely to want to do for a boat of this size

Ooh yeah, steer clear of names that make no sense what so ever like Iditarod, unless you can shout "mush" very loudly. Also names like Blue Angel, sounds too much like a porn film. Also names like Calm Voyger, cos it wont be calm at all. Then theres names with deep personal meaning like Two Ladies......what a bloody mistake that was.............so what you gonna call it then?
