Name plate: specs on legibility?

You do need a port name on the hull, so maybe it's no net advantage

I didn't know you had to show the registration port, thought it was just a unique name. My boat name is Nirvana of Chichester because Nirvana was already in use and the boat is registered - Nirvana of Chichester, Portsmouth. Is it a legal requirement?

Yup, legal requirement for part 1 registration (and strictly speaking as SA says you can name a club of the correct standing if you're a member, instead of the port of registration)

By the way, you could have called your boat Nirvan A, and accidently not put much space between the n and the a :D

OK, three or four hours on AutoCAD and I have two words which look decent.

vectorising didn't go as planned on the Portofino submitted photo (thanks!)

so had to do a full redesign job letter by letter...

next one is mitos with lots of ideas on the O. Mitos means thread (as in thread of line or whatever not the screw type of thread...)
Daughter prefers top one (which is unlasercuttable...), I'm happy with either the normal one (second from top) or the nut currently in place:

Probably need a family meeting on this important topic :p

Haven't bothered with Versilcraft yet, but looks like I'll drop the Porsche and other fonts and stick to the original for both model and name!
SS lasercut locally (probably 20euro, 30 max!) and double sided 3M it is.

cheers

Your daughter's O could be created by making a plain stainless steel O then getting a custom decal consisting of a series of black concentric circles. Funky monkey for example could easily make that

v, check this out:

Maybe not exactly the same as the original, but close enough (imho) to avoid bothering with scanning, rasterizing, etc.

PS: btw, in "your" MYSTERE, the "hole" of the R should be moved to the right, to align its left side with the lower vertical line.

thanks P.,

used the suggested font to model the numbers I need and avoid starting from scratch.
TBH, regarding the tracing over, I've done 70% of the work I recon as I only need three new letters to do (VAC) FL are deriving from E in less than a minute..

So, I'll stick to tracing and getting the letters as I like for the three words (MYSTERE, VERSILCRAFT and MITOS) and get the ahronbd font for the 4 digits, job done!

need Pete1984 and/or MystereMarcus to measure the height of text on the side of the superstructure to get that right ;)

re the R, doh! shifting things about the get the spacing right and I only picked the body of the letter and missed the hole, thanks, corrected.

thought so, etching of the ss would also be nice, as routing 3/10ths off the SS and painting it black. We shall see but I've persuaded the two women to accept the nut. I'll leave it for now and come back after a month or two and see if I still like it ;)
