Name Change

It’s not that boat, mine was registered in Cyprus.
Not familiar with Cyprus de registration fees , but it feels similar to the Italian hence the ball park for newbies €3 K invoice .
As others and the MCA web site suggests the U.K. reg fees and on line forms are a doddle and peanuts fee wise .

Anyone contemplating buying another flagged boat find out the expense early on in the negotiations with the broker , of de registration if you intend to U.K. reg it .

In theory like any admin job i suspect it can be done long range by co respondence , but I recall my broker back in 2014 muttering on about having to travel to the port office in Roma ( he was based in Naples with the boat ) personally with all the docs + fee to get it off .
The postal way had a problem or delays . MapishM will be along soon hopefully to fill in the blanks ?

Anyhow after a discussion he received a brown envelope :)

it’s important you keep the de reg docs or copies on the boat as it proves it’s VAT status .....Most states that have compulsory boat reg need to see proof of VAT paid .

Now with Brexit etc etc It’s VAT status or any boat waving a red ensign about will be like a red rag to a bull !

Since 2005 I have been “ done “ by officials twice in the S/Skr and once in the Itama ...Villfranche once , Lerins 2x .

I tip a file out to the armed guys on the cockpit table to rummage through Although they never specifically ask about the VAT they do indirectly kinda know as they always want to see the reg paperwork .I suspect they think our UK reg process and cert is like there’s in terms of VAT , although we know it’s not proof ......it’s just a tick box for them .

How ever your ace card from now on will be the de reg docs and the fact it was reg hopefully needing VAT paid previously .

They do keep a data file on a laptop so once done they leave you alone .....presume until someone looses the file ?

So it’s important the de reg is done property.
