Hi All

I am looking to change the name of our recent purchase - the bill of sale shows the old vessel name and I just wanted to know what steps I need to take in order to ensure a name change does not affect the bill of sale.

She has never been registered on the Small Ship Registry so I have now done a Part3 with the new name and hull number
The boat has never been registered with a VHF License so I have now got the new license with the MMSI and I have used the new boat's name.

Are there any other official steps I need to make to ensure the name change is registered against the bill of sale?

Name makes no odds. The bill of sale should have Hull Identification Number….that’s the proof it’s the same vessel etc….

Belt and braces ...

Write a short letter detailing the name change, date it, sign it and have two independent (IE not involved with the boat) people witness it (sign, print name and date)

Keep the letter with the boat papers

Probably unnecessary but easy to do and if nothing else maintains a paper trail for future owners
