Name change - bad luck?

I have always changed the name of any of my boats to what suits my wife and I personally, but I have only done it once without a proper "christening ceremony" which invited a boat load of problems. This has been the case all through maritime history.

What you must do is the following:
1) invite everyone to the ceremony who is important to the boat - captain, of course, crew, first mate...
2) serve champagne to everyone at the ceremony
3) do a recitation that you need to look up because every word counts
4) have everyone take a sip of their champagne
5) more recitation by you
6) have everyone take a long sip of their champagne
7) pour champagne on the bow to appease King Neptune
8) lay a branch of green leaves on the bow to ensure safe returns
9) now with the ceremony complete you are permitted to bring aboard any item bearing the new name of the new vessel.

Short, simple and effective. If you chose not to do this, the gods of the sea are known to become angry.
