Just out of interest what Cat engines do you have and why do you want to flush out with this stuff
Hi Chris. I have Cat 3116TA's. In the fresh water cooling system I use ordinary anti freeze and as the water turns rusty in colour I was advised to add Nalcool 2000 as a rust inhibitor. Geoff
I use the proper CAT Extended life coolant. Its already got inhibitors in it. Best thing is it lasts for 5/6 years.
If you read all the stuff on boatdiesel with probs with 3116's/3126's I just didnt think it was worth the risk to use some cheapy coolant.
Cat also do some cooling system cleaner which you can fill, run the boat for one trip and then flush out to clear out the crap that might get rid of rusty stuff.
Ironically, I was advised by a Cat engineer to use what I do. Ihave spoken to Nalfleet who only supply 25ltr cans at some £180 per time. I think I will use the same as you from now. Geoff
I've just drained and flushed mine out with water and replaced the older rusty coloured stuff with this ELC stuff. Dont mix it with water use straight out of container. Watch out as the ELC stuff finds every harline crack in the cooling system, had a leak which I thought was the O ring drain plug but turned out to be hairline crack under a small rust bubble on the header tank, but only found this out after replacing a few small hoses, the same O ring a few times and draining 20L of coolant out a few times
Thats the one, I got a couple of new plugs and a few more o rings just in case, I dont think its worth buggering about with the old ones, new one is £10 !!! (its only a small plug!), dont over tighten otherwise you will bugger up O ring, just tighten enuf to pinch the rubber, then a bit more if it leaks any other q's just pm me as I have spent quite a few weeks in my engine bay recently and geting to know my 3126's now.....touch wood
