Najad bites the dust

Anybody with a good banking relation, I can put up a guarantee enough to keep them alive.
But do not want to run a swedish boat show and end up like Saab, in a charity event.
 
Tragic destruction of two good companies. Maxi and Najad, they made such good products and Maxi was ruined when Najad took over, then Najad lost the plot and changed their boats and the rest is history. The one good thing is that it seems that HR have upped their game and are now making some interesting boats with quite advanced features.
 
Are Halberg Rassey actually making money?
With over priced boats like theirs they either making a fortune or are badly managed and really need to charge their prices
With the current economic climate it would not surprise me to see a few more expensive brands to go

It's an interesting tactic.
Northshore (Southerly) are a similar kind of brand, making some eye-watering money boats. However, last I heard their books were full up with long waiting lists for build slots. People with money seem to be looking for places to invest it, seeing as the banks won't give them anything for it.

Long waiting lists for build slots is marketing speak for "we are desparate for your order". There is no such thing in the
UK boatbuilding industry any more. Any boatbuilder can scale up for an order rush as the key skills are the last ones to go.

Of course anyone claiming a wait list may well have self induced it by over zealous staff cutting, but then I am just a realistic cynic.
 
We looked at a Southerly a couple of years ago, model 46 I think it was. Mega bucks even without the hundreds of add on options of thrusters and other such like **** I do not want or require. However the standard offering came with just two fenders, cheapo sails and no instruments I seem to recall. ( Our owners prefer to buy their own sir was the sales pitch) Well this potential owner smelt ripoff bigtime so we decided to refurbish the Baraccuda for 20K instead of spending 500k +instead.

I suspect people are still taking tax free pension pot lump sums and spending on things like yachts. I too wonder how long this market will exist, I am suddenly getting emails from Southerly tempting me with free taster sails. Perhaps the forward order book is not so rosy now?

If you want to see some innovation click videos and then click the 4th video. They have a unique self docking system that will hold at the boat against the tide while a single hander ties up the boat, unless I am missing something.

Not that unique Jeanneau were there first with the ZF system which is able to cope with wind and tide from any direction.

And single handers have been using a line from a centre cleat and the main engine for many years . . . .

Still its sad to see another manufacturer (or two) go.
