Hi all,

I have a B&G/Lowrance/Simrad NAIS-400 fitted to my Beneteau 31. While out sailing yesterday I got a message on the main plotter that I should update the AIS software. Today I firstly checked the unit worked by using MarineTraffic. I then connected a USB cable to the unit and tried to connect to it from my laptop using ProAIS2 but with no success. However, now when I switch the unit on the green LED illuminates for 2 seconds then goes off. Nothing else seems to happen and there does not seem to be an output (checking on MarineTraffic)

I have checked power with a meter and all seems OK. I have disconnected all the plugs and reconnected, nothing untoward.

The trouble shooting in the manual is vague to say the least!

Do any of you smart guys have any good ideas?

Thanks

Rich

Thanks Jamie - I talked to Navico and apparently if a software upgrade is attempted while the unit is powered on externally (as opposed to being exclusively powered from the USB) this sort of problem can occur. Unfortunately they are unable to offer any advice on how to remedy the problem. The manual does not make any mention of this. I am taking it in to a local marine supplier to take a look.

Hi, I took the unit to Echomaster in Buckie (local to me) and they tried to revive it without any success. They kindly took up the case with Navico who eventually agreed to replace the unit. I received a new NAIS-500 after some delay and it is now working again.
