I am planning to spend some time this summer cruising this coast so
would appreciate any first hand or reliable news on the effects of the oil spillage on ports and marinas, plus a forward view on how facilites may be affected this summer.

Many thanks.

The reports I see on French television indicate that it is being cleaned as quickly as it arrives.

As a Spanish I've been in the area 2 weeks ago. All marinas are in perfect conditions. Regarding to the coast, the south part of the area ("rias baixas") has not been afected. The northern area ("rias altas") has still some area with oil on the rocks. However, it is expected everything will be clean in about 2/3 months. Of course, there is no problem about sailing

The French coast is now clear, thanks to thousands of man hours put in by the firemen and the military. There are still some blobs down in the S.E. corner of Biscay, but these too are being collected. Although the wreck was still leaking oil despite the hull cracks being sealed by Nautile, the crude oil is being collected as it surfaces by a flotilla of boats.

We're planning to sail down in about 4 weeks time, setting off from La Rochelle and do not anticipate any problems. The information available in the marina is good, if I hear anything negative I'll pass on the latest info. from this end.
