I think that the outboard bracket and fence post are conspiring against your there Roger. The rudder looks the right way round to me, if a little lacking in balance.
 
My first thought was a Spurn, but the bow and transom don't look right.
On the Spurn the coachroof was full width and this doesn't look to be.
I'd agree she looks very VdS though.

Yes it is the bottom of the fence post and the and the plastic bag could be covering the outboard bracket

The rudder shaft looks further aft than the currently forward end of the rudder. Also the gap ot the current front of the rudder looks like its touching the hull.
 
As a doomster it looks to me as if the rudder shaft could be bent, as if reversed into something, I see the shaft in the 'correct' place. Could equally be a poor fit.

Of some there is no internet record, it may well be one of those.


Looks a handy boat for the job, even with a ripped out interior it would make a useful day sailor. The trailer is a good bonus.
Give us a bulletin when you are allowed to get down to it.

I have renovated a couple of small yachts. As long as they are sound and one is prepared to do all the work they are not always a money-pit. The sense of satisfaction with the end result is immense. I always want to modify, so starting with a basically sound project boat can be an asset as long as the initial purchase price is low or free. On the negative side, your tow hitch looks to be bent up and the rudder out of alignment. Has the boat on the trailer been reversed into something to cause both? Check the rear of the rudder for damage. Good luck with your mystery boat. Keep us posted.
