My washing machine is making a hell of a racket.

Worse than the ruddy kids. Whirr, whirr, whirr, CLANK CLANK CLANK.
I've looked through the washing machine manual and it does not mention how to keep snap shackles from CLANKING on the door.
I put all the halyards and sheets in pillow cases as the sages here proscribe. To No Avail!!!
The blighters were out and mingling within seconds of pushing the Programme 7 Delicates switch.
Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
I am trying to listen to the sound of the forum but its all blotted out.

I put coil the line as I usually do on the boat. I tie a sock over any shackles and put the whole mess in a pillow case tied shut. No clanking and no snarling.

Wonder how things will fare when it gets to the spin cycle! Hopefully the little buggers will get pinned against the drum and then behave themselves afterwards! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Errrr. No. I have had 3 already, and this is the *last* time, and luckily, the mad gene seemed to have passed this one by, or I got lucky finally.
So, as I have used the wachine thingy as a singleton for a long time, I dont get bollocked for throwing ropes and dodgers etc in the machine.
SheWhoMustBeObeyed does 100% of the ironing.
The Romans called it a Quid Pro Quo, and they knew a thing or two.

You need to develop a closer relationship.

Just have a bath with your halyards and warps in with you, rather than subject them to a full wash at a distance.

Try a bit of insulation foam (the split stuff for putting on pipes) over the hard eyes and shackles, held in place with a couple of wire ties. banishes the clanking a treat.

Why, in G@d's name have you put the shackles in?

They will ruin the inside to your washing machine, and why wash them anyway?

If they need a wash, soak them in a bucket of clean water with a drop of washing-up liquid.

MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shackles nicely spliced onto sheet ends!!!! They look lovely, and I have been doing it that way for a number of years.
Haven't ever gouged through the door yet, the motor usually packs up before then...

[/ QUOTE ]You clearly missed another thread which pointed out the benefits (they missed this one) of stitch and whip vs nicely spliced (they just cant splice is struth) but if you listened to them, you wouldnt be listening to CLANK,CLUNK,THUMP,DONG,BANG and all the other onomatapoeical words... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't wash any socks for a while and encourage them on to the rope over the shackle. Restrain in place by cable ties. This does deaden the noise of the shackles hitting the glass door and at the end you have clean socks as well ....

[/ QUOTE ] I suggest that ironing halyards is not a good idea, and as for the sheets, well I suggest that the boat sheets are not ironed either.
