Another day another town…
Piazza Erbe. We had dinner there one night and my wife ordered a whole sole. The waiter asked if she wanted the bones removed and she said yes, it was obviously something he hadn't done often and did it very nervously but managed and it was delicious.

How was the opera?
( And the pizza?)

Week last Thursday we took our youngest grand daughter, her friend and one of my SILs to watch two Strictly Dancers in concert. It was fab. Highly professional and top entertainment. Included a meet and greet with the two stars. Fab u lous.

Far more for me than opera. But each to their own.

That's a shame, we were discussing over lunch the suitability or not of producing a play particularly a well known historical one in a different setting than it was originally put or we old foggies have accepted as the norm.

For everyone’s information…Nabucco is based on about three books of the Bible…some historical events…and a whole lot of artistic license….which is fine.
The first act is set in the Temple of Solomon…..this performance starts with some spacemen assembling a nuclear missile.
There were spacemen, blue spacemen and sexy spacewomen…all dancing (badly) on a noisy Perspex stage.
More to follow

Got any photos of the sexy spacewomen?

Err, asking for a friend.

The ´set’ consisted of neon lights ….and two of halves of a giant peach that eventually joined to form a whole forty foot high neon peach….and they had sword fights…not with Bronze Age swords or even space swords…but foils …and they wore fencing masks….spacemen with swords and masks

Such a pity for me part of going to the opera and most plays is the actual theatre, spectacle and presentation maybe for some such productions are a distraction rather than a contribution and are more part of the producers and set designers egos than wanting to provide a performance for the majority. Don't get me started on women playing classical male roles either.

That's a shame. Never seen Nabucco but l'm familiar with the story and I'm sure Verdi didnt have spacemen.
Sometimes modernised things work, sometimes not.

The highlight of any performance of Nabucco is the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves….so the cast come in their strange costumes looking like extras from Dune…and they are each carrying something…I was only five rows from the front and it took a long time for me to realise that they weren’t carrying Champagne flutes…but egg timers….the stadium is nearly as big as White Hart Lane…what did the people at the back think was going on 🤷🏼‍♂️😳

The wife said this is our last Italian road trip….the roads are just too tortuous….the potholes…the endless road works…the absolute confusion when following signs…and just the overly complex road system
