I have only been to Manchester once; in 1956.

I was sent there to be examined by a doctor.

He told me I was fit enough to join the Royal Navy.

I fell asleep on the train back to Bradford, and was woken up after it had been shunted into a siding by a cleaning lady.

(Just to be clear, it was the cleaning who lady woke me up, it wasn't she who shunted the train into a siding.)

The only reason he was sent to a doctor that wasn’t on a naval base was because they needed a second opinion....in 1956 he was their oldest recruit...and the doctors were worried
