Started off well nice sail down Soton water with intention of heading toward Chichester .. notice no matter what I did the area around the tack of the main would'nt draw .. then noticed end of boom and gooseneck had parted company. Fortunately the pin was still on the deck (split pin had fallen off) I tried to fix whilst John sailed under genoa alone .. its amazing how many Mobo's became really interested in what I was doing ... only reason I could think of them whizzing past at 35 knots about 6 yards away whilst I was pratting about on the coachroof with a heavy boom balanced on my shoulder tying to reinsert. Finally fixed and had nice sail up to the Winner buoy spoilt only by the gestapo clad appropriately enough in black shouting and being generally obnoxious even whilst outside restricted area ... what a bunch of amateurs! If thats where my tax money's going I can think of a million better ways to spend it. Eventually got back just too late to refuel so I'll have to make a special trip down tomorrow to refuel in preparation for the Irish tour because the gestapo would let me pass from west ride middle to Hillhead but insisted I go right roungd the Brambles. The four square miles of empty Solent just east of the Brambles must be really special judging by the tenacity with which the little dictators were guarding it ... and all just for a little elederly old wummin to go past and say "Oh thats a nice shade of grey on that boat!"

Don't start me off ranting.... we were there too and we're not talking to mobo folk again, ever. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Fun Day

James, you old rogue!

You made it quite clear to us (after you'd fixed the gooseneck) that you were about to 'take on' the Solent. I'm sorry we waved on passing without you seeing us, I had the specs ready in a sealed tupperware container for the fling into your cockpit.

I can well understand how difficult it must have been to spot us without your specs.

We had 3 teenagers on the bow and a dad determined to soak them. We chased every Mobo wake we could find, but none of them would come close enough to provide the required thrill. In the end, it took an obliging tug to throw us a decent wake.

So we're not talking to Mobos either.

I think you'll find that the generally very busy Solent was made even more chaotic due to it effectively being halved in size by a number of large grey boats. Bloody raggies everywhere. At one point I had to slow down to below 30 knots!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
