Hello.
My ST60 wind has suddenly stoped working. The pointer is not moving and instead of the wind speep it shows ___ ___ ___. What is going on? I cannot see any problems to the windvane and the rotavecta (I think they are called like this... you know these things on the top of the mast).
Thanks

If both speed and direction have stopped working, it's most likely because of a poor connection. There are two separate gizmos up there and it seems unlikely they will both have failed at the same time.
Likely candidates are the spade connectors on the rear of the instrument, or maybe is there a joint in the wires near the foot of the mast as well? Try the ones on the instrument first - take 'em off and clean 'em up.
If you can't cure it this way then unfortunately there may be a fault in the instrument head itself that will need to be looked at by a Raymarine agent.

Only the windex has a problem. The tridata instrument works perfectly fine. I will have to look at the connections behind the istrument as you have suggested.

I don't like to be a harbinger of doom, but just to cheer you up, ours did the same. It just died. I checked all the connections but nothing was amiss so I had to take it into the local Raymarine Dealer. It needed a new board in the display. I just paid the bill: £199.84 including fitting.

Bad news I'm afraid- When I spoke to Raymarine about my own ST60 problem(wind speed showing as 'OO') I was told zeros are good and easily fixablebut '--' means no telemetry being received so a factory repair to either the masthead transducer or the instrument display unit
Either way an expensive fix

Mmmmm, methinks there might be an opening in fixing ST60's?

12 or 24volt systems with the most expensive discrete component costing no more than a tenner /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Mmmmmmmmm.

Unless the printed circuit board or the mechanical parts has been smashed or might even be corroded, I think that the 'repairers are making a killing /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif and relying on your good selves to fork out the dosh for what can only be a very cheap repair!!

Just check out the cost of a few components from somewhere like RS, Electromail, Maplin, Farnell, CNC and you will see that most parts are a few pence. Often it is only something very simple like a fuse that needs replacing.

Look at it this way, it was working perfectly, then it stopped?

There wasn't a small nuclear explosion, China Syndrome melt down or lightening strike, therefore the cost should be minimal. If there was, that is a different matter.

To save travel costs to collect the parts required, they can even be ordered from mail-order companies.

I don't disagree with a small charge of say £25-£50 for an inspection with a view to repair for which you should get a written report of the damage/parts and labour, but this cost should be taken into consideration if you then proceed and have the unit fully restored.

I am afraid they are "avin' a larf" at your expense.

Rogue Traders seems to fit the bill and you need a cost breakdown BEFORE you get it repaired.

I am afraid there are too many shysters ripping people off nowadays. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I agree with your sentiments. However, multiple layer pcb with mostly surface mounted components and no circuit diagram - I'm stuffed and have to pay the bill. My guess is that they will argue its not worth the labour charges for sorting the faulkt and its easier to change the board. When it died, I felt sure it a was a power problem - but no corrosion on the board and nothing obvious and no way to check the multiple layer board - and as I said - I'm stuffed. And I was an electronics/RF engineer once upon a time, so I have some idea about what I was looking at.
