My Ship is under sailing orders this morning - is your's ?

Yes Sunday morning here and race for this afternoon is scheduled. At this time of the year Autumn winds get very light. Last Sunday's race achieved about 3km in 1.75 hrs. Wed evening twilight race /cruise achieved less than 1 km with a return home partially under paddle power. Yes Vic Mrs Johnson let me down again. After lying in the bilges all season no cooling water flow. It reliably fails me.
I can't say weather today is beckoning. Rain forecast and max 22. Coldest since last winter. Good luck with the new season to all my friends sailing in UK. olewil

Feeling smug. I'm the only boat launched at my club and had 10 hours of wall to wall sunshine with F2-3 winds on board yesterday. Well worth the worry of 80knt gusts at my mooring on Wednesday night.

Went with a more experienced friend to finish rigging my new boat and finally sail it only to discover the main sheet wasn't there! We had fun anyway motor sailing with the jib and outboard.

When I got back home and got hold of the chap I bought it from was told it is there just hidden under the cockpit!

Mon morning report.. I had a cunning plan to sail with just 1 crew to make the most of very light conditions. With luck and light winds the little boat can do well. I get to the boat to rig up and wind has come in. Chose fortunately no 3 jib and small spin.
We did the race in gusty up to 30 knots near the end, even flew spin twice. Hard work. Came home last. All agreed it was pretty 'orrible. olewill
Just a few races left for the season. olewill

First Sail of the Season

Just a short hop from Gosport to the Hamble for a social with the Cruising Association at the RAFYC. Very light E/SE on Saturday but plenty of sunshine. Cruising chute up (and down manually - works better when the downhaul on the sock is actually connected to the mouth of the snuffer) . Wind was predicted to be really light on the Sunday, but it came up early/mid morning to (I guess) about 10 knots S/SW so a lovely reach back until Lee on Solent when the wind died, but the sun was out and SWMBO (who doesn't do cold) was beaming from ear to ear. Couldn't have had a better intro to the season. Let's hope it's a sign of things to come......

Neil
