Well, here she is, sitting on the visitors pontoon before the wash from a ship ripped a fairlead out! She now has a few scrapes and bumps from some heavy weather off foreland, but she's now in South Dock. She's leaking, but she's here!

Re: I wanna see this........

She is indeed! Circa 1920's, I believe. She's the only 40 footer I've seen that isn't an open passenger boat. I'm picking up the photos from the journey back (Cowes-Shoreham-Dover-London) in about half an hour, so I shall scan some of those too.

Re: I wanna see this........

I thought I recognised the lines.

When I was a kid, in the late '60s, we had a 52' X 12' pinnace which had been converted into a motor yacht, complete with a small bridge (and flag locker!). The engine room was something else and I think was the real reason my old man bought her - a big Gardner diesel in the middle and a Lister generator to one side. Sleeping on board was always a bit of a challenge, with condensation dripping on you from all directions, and she rolled like a pig, but she always felt safe. I have lots of happy memories.

Have fun!

Re: I wanna see this........

Thanks, all. Yes, that was pretty much the same spot as Powerskipper mentioned, the wash is terrible. She does roll, like you say, jfm, but still feels safe. I found knowing there are three layers of good old Empire hardwood planking between me and the sea very reassuring! I found being mostly invisible to radar quite the opposite, esp. in 1 cable vis off Selsey Bill!

I didn'e expect the oldest boat I've driven to be the easiest to handle. Love her to bits.

Re: I wanna see this........

Now lets try adding a couple more. It make take somebody else's input to get them to actually show, but here goes....

Phew! that was almost as much work as bringing the boat back.

Thanks jhr!

This was opposite the fuel barge at Cowes.

Dover at dawn.

First sight of London! Yay, nor more waves (other than propwash)!

shorhmatdawn.sized.jpg

This was having arrived at Shoreham after 8 hours at half throttle in thick fog.
Just a shame I was actually aiming for Ramsgate.
