My old new volvo penta md2b!

Fact 1 you had a botched up gear change consisting of multicoloured ropes. This could have meant the gear was not properly engaged.
Fact 2 after you sold the slug to Applescruffs, he applied leverage with a 4 x 2 and it released it into neutral.
Fact 3 you filled the stern tube with grease after refitting the stern bearing thus preventing cooling water to the stern gland.

amazing job....now are you going to wire this to a new ignition panel/gauges? What is the difference between a dynastarter and a normal starter?

Dynastart looks like an old fashioned car dynamo. Belt driven from/to the flywheel. Works as a motor for starting, and when the engine starts, it starts charging. On engines like the old MD2b, you need to decompress the cylinders before starting, because the belt will slip due to compression. I think Volvo changed to conventional starter half way into MD2b production.
I used to love my old MD2b!

I changed the dynastart for a ring gear flywheel and starter motor. It was so much easier t run. I still have the 55mm socket that I bought specifically to get the flywheel off/on. It’s yours if you want it.

Thank you! I wired the engine with a new dynastart that i use as a starter only, and installed a 2 wire Valeo alternator from my sister's old Peagaut 106 ( that went to recycle). I installed a temperature gauge and a mechanical oil manometer. As other posters mentioned dynastart works with belts and you need to decompress the exhaust valves with the levers otherwise it will not turn it! I am happy with it, the only thing is that i have to open the engine box to reach the levers every time i want to run the engine..

If you need help with wiring, message me

This engine had sunk in the bottom of the sea for 2 days...pistons seized..After 3 days of work i managed to unstick the pistons.
After 6 months of Diy this is how it looks! New pistons 89mm, bored cylinders and lot lot lot of cleaning and removing rust and dirt...
Congrats! a proper restore job!
